Differences in performance and application range between white and brown corundum
Brown corundum, commonly known as corundum, is a brown artificial corundum made by melting and reducing three raw materials: bauxite, carbon material, and iron filings in an electric arc furnace. The main chemical component is AL2O3, with a content of 95.00% -97.00%, and a small amount of Fe, Si, Ti, etc. It is a fairly basic abrasive, widely used due to its good grinding performance, wide applicability, and low price. Iron oxide, silicon dioxide, and titanium oxide in alumina are successively reduced to form ferroalloys, which deposit from the melt to the bottom of the furnace. A small portion of aluminum oxide reacts with carbon and ferrous sulfide to generate a small amount of aluminum sulfide filled between the single crystal particles. When the frit is cooled and placed in water, the aluminum sulfide dissolves, and the single crystal corundum separated by the aluminum sulfide can be dispersed into natural abrasive particles.
